Limit for refugees Not more than 200,000 refugees every year
Despite winter and the cold climate, there are more refugees arriving in Germany. Seehofer, head of CSU demands a limit to new arrivals, namely 200,000 per annum.
No consensus within parties
The asylum debate continues. Germany can manage this amount, Seehofer told “Bild am Sonntag”. “And then the integration process is going to work as well. Everything above this limit is too much in my opinion.” The political party CSU has been demanding a limit for months but so far they hadn’t mentioned a specific number. Chancellor Merkel doesn’t conform this number.
SPD faction leader of the Bundestag (Lower House of the German Parliament) Thomas Oppermann wants to even reduce the amount of new arrivals drastically this year. German businesses that offer interships and other work opportunities for refugees do not like that idea. They fear their employees might have to drop out of work due to being send back home. In Kreuth members of the Bundestag meet to discuss the entry stop for refugees without any passport.
Capsizing boats until today
The sea passage between Turkey and Greece becomes more dangerous due to changing weather conditions. A two year old Syrian lost his life tragically on Saturday due to a boat accident.
However, there are still more than 4,000 refugees arriving each day according to Greek Vice-Minister of Migration Iaonnis Mouzalas. 851,319 refugees are supposed to have arrived in Europe last year. More than 25% of those were children.
