In the face of today’s electrified, digitalized world, the focus at the 2012 Donaueschingen Festival from 19th to 21st of october will be on instrumentations – on the one hand, instrumentations consisting of simple electronic instruments, particularly samplers and interfaces, and on the other, instrumentations characterized by a small but very specific grouping of acoustic instruments, a grouping in which electroacoustic instruments like the electric guitar and electric violin assume a unifying, integrative role between the various media. The Donaueschingen Festival was founded in 1921 under the princely protection of the House of Fürstenberg. It is today the oldest and most traditional Festival for new music in the world and is generally regarded as the prototype for festivals in specialized fields of culture.
